Cramlington sits just north of Newcastle, between the A19 and the A189 Spine Road, so it is an easy run for our engineers from the head office on Westgate Road. We install, repair and maintain air conditioning across the town for homeowners, landlords, retailers and the many businesses on its industrial estates, and we work on systems from any manufacturer.
You might live on one of the estates near Northumberlandia on the edge of town, or run a unit out towards Azure Garden Centre. Either way we start with a proper survey and a written quote. The installation itself is done by F-Gas qualified engineers working for a REFCOM registered company.
What we usually fit in Cramlington homes
Most of Cramlington was built from the 1960s onwards, and the town has kept growing with newer developments on its edges. That matters for air conditioning, because modern brick and block houses are generally straightforward to work on: there is usually a clear external wall for the outdoor unit, a short pipe run, and space on a driveway or rear garden for a ground stand.
Single rooms
The most common request is a single wall-mounted split for a main bedroom, a loft conversion or a home office. These rooms warm up quickly on summer afternoons, especially where there is a large south-facing window. A 2.5kW or 3.5kW unit suits most bedrooms; we size it from the room dimensions, glazing and orientation rather than guessing. Our guide on what size air conditioning unit you need explains the factors.
Several rooms from one outdoor unit
Where you want two or three rooms cooled, a multi-split lets one outdoor unit serve several indoor units. It keeps the outside of the house tidier, which is useful on estates where front elevations are close together. Our guide to multi-split air conditioning installation explains how these systems are laid out.
Heating too
Modern split systems are air-to-air heat pumps, so the same unit that cools in July can heat a room efficiently in spring and autumn. Plenty of Cramlington customers use theirs as much for heating a cold extension or garden room as for cooling.

Shops, leisure venues and units around the town
Cramlington has a busy commercial side: retail around Manor Walks Shopping Centre, leisure venues such as the Vue cinema, Concordia Leisure Centre, Airbox, TJ's Jungle and Gala Bingo, pubs like The Blake Arms, outdoor attractions such as The Quadfather, and a large spread of manufacturing and distribution premises on the industrial estates. Each type of building has different cooling needs.
- Ceiling cassettes for shops and open-plan offices
- Ducted systems where units must stay out of sight
- Wall-mounted splits for small offices and staff rooms
- Server and comms room cooling
- Packaged units and indoor air handlers
- Planned maintenance agreements
Commercial systems with a total cooling output above 12kW need a TM44 energy inspection every five years, and systems holding refrigerant at or above 5 tonnes CO2-equivalent need regular leak checks. We can tell you which rules apply to your equipment. See our commercial air conditioning installation page for more on larger projects.
Is planning permission needed for an outdoor unit in Cramlington?
Often it is not, but it depends on the property. Cramlington falls under Northumberland County Council as the local planning authority, not Newcastle City Council, which covers our air conditioning jobs in Newcastle. Most outdoor units on ordinary houses are fitted without a planning application, but conditions apply around position, size and noise, and older buildings in the original village core or any listed building need more care.
At UK Aircon we check the position with you at the survey. If there is any doubt, we confirm with the council before work starts. If you rent, or live in a flat or a house with a management company, you will also need consent from the landlord or freeholder.
Repairs and servicing for existing systems
If your air conditioner is blowing warm air, leaking water, tripping its breaker or has become noticeably louder, our engineers can diagnose and repair it. Repairs are one of our core air conditioning services, and we fix all brands and models, from a single bedroom split to commercial packaged units. Common faults we deal with include:
- Low refrigerant caused by a leak, which must be found and repaired before any recharge
- Blocked condensate drains causing drips from the indoor unit
- Failed fan motors, capacitors or control boards
- Thermostats and remote controllers that no longer respond
- Clogged filters and coils that cut cooling output and raise running costs
Older systems running on R22 refrigerant can no longer be topped up with it, so when one of those develops a leak, replacement is usually the sensible route. Our maintenance and repair service covers both one-off call-outs and annual servicing, which we recommend for every system.
Backed by our installation warranty
New installations come with a 5 year warranty covering parts and labour, plus access to our 24-hour emergency call-out, complimentary maintenance check-ups and discounted spares.
Arranging work from our Newcastle office
Cramlington jobs are run from the same team that handles our air conditioning in Newcastle, and we regularly travel on to other parts of North Tyneside, such as Wallsend. Off-road parking is usually easy on Cramlington estates, which helps on installation day because our engineers need the van close by for tools, pipework and the outdoor unit.
Send us the details of your property and the rooms you want cooled and we will reply within 24 hours to arrange a free estimate. Installed prices start from £1,800.
Cramlington air conditioning questions
Do you cover Cramlington from Newcastle?
Yes. UK Aircon is based at 407 Westgate Road in Newcastle upon Tyne and covers Cramlington for installation, repairs, servicing and system replacement for homes and businesses.
Which council deals with planning for air conditioning in Cramlington?
Cramlington is in Northumberland, so Northumberland County Council is the local planning authority. Many domestic outdoor units do not need a planning application, but listed buildings and some locations do, and we check before installing.
How long does it take to install air conditioning in a Cramlington house?
A single split system in a typical house is usually installed and commissioned in one day. Multi-split and commercial systems take longer, and we give you a timescale with your quote.
Can air conditioning heat my home as well as cool it?
Yes. Modern split air conditioners are air-to-air heat pumps, so they can heat a room efficiently as well as cool it, which makes them useful for extensions, garden rooms and loft conversions.
Will you repair an air conditioner you did not install?
Yes. Our technicians service and repair air conditioners from any manufacturer, whoever originally fitted them.
