UK Aircon is a full-service air conditioning contractor based at 407 Westgate Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 6PB. We design, install, repair, service and replace air conditioning systems for homes, offices, shops and hospitality venues across the city and the wider Tyneside area, and we have been doing it for over 20 years.
Because Newcastle is our home patch, most jobs start with a short drive, not a long journey. We know the streets, the building types and the planning questions that come up here, and we are locally owned and operated. Every quote is free, installed systems start from £1,800, and new installations come with a 5 years warranty covering parts and labour.
From Westgate Road to every corner of Tyneside
Our office sits on the western edge of the city centre, which puts the Quayside, Grainger Town and the Central Station area a few minutes away and gives us quick routes out to Fenham, Kenton, Westerhope and Lemington in the west, and to High Heaton, Walkergate and Walker in the east. North of the river we regularly work in Gosforth, Jesmond and the newer estates around Newcastle Great Park; south of the Tyne we cover Gateshead and beyond.
Being close matters for more than travel time. It means a survey can be booked around your week, a follow-up visit is not a major undertaking, and our engineers already know how parking, loading and access tend to work on terraced streets and in the city centre before they arrive.

Tyneside flats, terraces and semis: what each one needs
Newcastle's housing stock shapes almost every domestic installation we carry out. The right system, the route for the pipework and the position of the outdoor unit all depend on the kind of building you live in.
Tyneside flats
The classic Tyneside flat, common in Heaton, Fenham, Benwell and parts of Gateshead, is one of a pair of homes in what looks like a single terraced house, with separate front doors for the upstairs and downstairs flat. Wall space at the back is often shared, yards are small, and the upstairs owner rarely has ground-level space for an outdoor unit. We usually mount the condenser on a wall bracket on the rear elevation and agree positions with both owners before we drill. Condensate from an upper flat also needs a sensible route, usually into an existing rainwater downpipe or gully rather than dripping into a neighbour's yard.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Larger terraces in Jesmond, Heaton and Sandyford have solid brick walls, high ceilings and, increasingly, loft conversions. Attic bedrooms and rear extensions with roof lights are where we see the worst summer overheating. A single 2.5kW or 3.5kW wall-mounted split usually solves a loft room; a multi-split lets one outdoor unit serve two or three rooms.
Inter-war and post-war semis
In Kenton, Westerhope, Lemington and Walkergate the typical home is a brick semi with a side passage or garden. These are often the most straightforward installs, with ground-level outdoor units on stands and short pipe runs through a single 65mm core hole.
New-build estates
Modern homes at Great Park and other recent developments are well insulated and airtight, which keeps heat in during summer as well as winter. Check your deeds or management company rules before installing external equipment, as some estates restrict what can go on front elevations.
Air conditioning for Newcastle workplaces
Commercial premises in Newcastle range from Georgian shop units to glass-fronted offices, and each needs a different approach. We install wall-mounted splits, ceiling cassettes, ducted systems and VRF for multi-zone buildings, and we work with landlords, managing agents and tenants to agree the details.
- Quayside and city-centre offices
- Retail units on and around Northumberland Street
- Restaurants, bars and cafés
- Server and comms rooms
- Salons, clinics and dental surgeries
- Gyms and studios
- Workshops and trade counters
- Student and residential blocks

Larger commercial systems bring legal responsibilities. Systems over 12kW need a TM44 energy inspection every five years, and systems at or above 5 tonnes CO2-equivalent of refrigerant need regular leak checks. We can advise on both as part of our commercial air conditioning installation service and keep the records for you under a maintenance agreement.
Planning, listed buildings and conservation areas
Most domestic split systems can be installed without a planning application, but Newcastle has a large historic core and that changes things. Grainger Town contains some of the city's finest listed classical streets, including Grey Street, and Jesmond, Gosforth and parts of the city centre sit within conservation areas. External units on listed buildings generally need listed building consent, and units on front elevations in conservation areas may need permission.
When a property could be affected, the team at UK Aircon checks with Newcastle City Council before work starts (or with Gateshead Council for our air conditioning work in Gateshead). We then suggest positions that keep equipment out of sight from the street, such as rear yards, flat roofs or inside lightwells.
Repairs, servicing and system replacement
Our technicians service air conditioners from any manufacturer, are background checked and receive monthly training. Book a visit through our air conditioning maintenance and repairs team if you notice any of the following:
- Warm air or no cooling
- Loud or unusual noises
- Water leaking from the indoor unit
- Musty or burning smells
- Rooms at uneven temperatures
- Weak airflow or clogged filters
- Rising electricity bills
- Ice on pipework or coils
Most homes need a service once a year. Busy commercial sites need more frequent visits, which we can set up alongside the other air conditioning services we offer. A service covers filter cleaning, coil and drain checks, electrical checks and performance readings. When a system is old, inefficient or still runs on R22, which can no longer be used to service systems, replacement with a modern R32 heat pump is usually the better long-term option.
Newcastle installations, step by step
- Free survey. We visit, measure the rooms, note glazing and heat sources, and check routes for pipework, power and condensate drainage.
- Written quote. You receive a clear proposal with the system size, unit positions and any planning notes.
- Installation day. A single split is usually completed in a day. We drill the core hole, mount both units, run and insulate the pipework and connect the drain.
- Testing and commissioning. The system is nitrogen pressure tested and vacuumed before refrigerant is released, then run up and checked.
- Handover. We show you the controls, explain filter cleaning and register your warranty.

What Newcastle customers say
A few words from clients we have worked for:
I received the upfront price with no surprise, and the repair was much less than the other quotes I received. I will never use another AC company!

UK Aircon has taken care of our AC for almost eight years. When my AC wasn’t working, they did their best to get to my house asap to find the problem. They work hard to satisfy their customers. Honesty and Integrity are important to them.

Michael and his guys are true professionals. It only took them about 2 hours to install the air conditioner in my house and make everything as clean as possible.

Neighbourhoods and nearby towns we cover
We cover the whole of Newcastle upon Tyne, from Fenham, Kenton and Westerhope to High Heaton, Walker and Walkergate. We also have dedicated pages for areas where we carry out a lot of work:

UK Aircon's head office is at 407 Westgate Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 6PB. We are open Monday to Saturday, 8:00am to 6:00pm, and can be contacted by email at [email protected].
Can air conditioning be fitted to a Tyneside flat?
Yes. Most Tyneside flats can take a wall-mounted split system. The outdoor unit is usually mounted on a bracket on the rear wall, and positions should be agreed with the owner of the other flat where walls or yards are shared.
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Newcastle?
Many domestic installations do not need a planning application, but listed buildings and properties in conservation areas such as Grainger Town or Jesmond may need consent for external units. UK Aircon checks with Newcastle City Council before work begins where this could apply.
How much does air conditioning cost in Newcastle?
UK Aircon's installed air conditioning systems start from £1,800. The final price depends on the number of rooms, the system type, pipe run lengths and access, and every quote is free.
Is my Newcastle installation covered by a warranty?

Do you repair systems you did not install?
