UK Aircon is a full-service air conditioning contractor based in Newcastle upon Tyne, working with homeowners, landlords and businesses across the UK. We design and install new systems, repair faults, keep existing equipment running through planned maintenance, and replace ageing units when repair no longer makes sense. Every job is carried out by our own REFCOM-registered engineers, and we service air conditioners from any manufacturer.
This page is an overview of everything we offer. Each section links to a more detailed page, so you can go straight to the information that matches your property and your problem.
The four jobs we do most
Most of our work falls into four areas. Because it all stays in-house, the engineer who services your system knows how it was put in, and whoever quotes for a replacement already knows what has gone wrong with it before.
Air conditioning installation
Every installation starts with a survey. We measure the room or building, look at heat gains such as glazing, occupancy and equipment, and work out where the indoor and outdoor units can sit without causing problems for pipe runs, drainage or the look of the place. Then we size the system in kilowatts, supply it, fit it and commission it. On a typical job that means core drilling for pipework, mounting the outdoor unit on brackets or a ground stand, a nitrogen pressure test, evacuating the pipework under vacuum and handing the system over with a walkthrough of the controls.
If a system stops cooling, drips water, throws up an error code or starts making odd noises, our engineers find the cause before they replace any parts. The repairs we carry out most often are clearing blocked condensate drains, replacing failed fan motors, sensors and PCBs, finding and fixing refrigerant leaks, and correcting wiring or control faults. We work on wall-mounted splits, multi-splits, cassettes, ducted units and VRF systems regardless of brand.
Preventative maintenance
Air conditioning loses efficiency slowly. Filters clog, coils get dirty and drains slime up, and you rarely notice until something stops working. A planned service picks this up early. We clean filters and coils, check refrigerant pressures and temperatures, test electrical connections, clear condensate lines and record the results. Annual servicing suits most homes; busy offices, shops and kitchens usually benefit from more frequent visits. Our maintenance and repair page explains what a service involves and the symptoms that mean a visit is due.
System replacement
Older units, particularly those still charged with R22 refrigerant, can no longer be serviced with that gas and are increasingly expensive to keep running. Replacing them gets you a modern, more efficient system, often on R32, sized for how the space is actually used now. If your existing pipework, brackets or electrical supply can be reused, we will say so. If they can't, we'll explain why. We also handle the safe recovery of refrigerant from the old equipment.

Different buildings, different priorities
The engineering is the same wherever we work, but what matters most changes from site to site. In a bedroom it's noise. A server room has to be cooled reliably around the clock, and a restaurant system has to cope with cooking heat and grease.
Domestic
Bedrooms, living rooms, home offices, loft conversions and flats. Quiet indoor units, discreet pipe routes and systems that also heat efficiently in winter.
Commercial
Offices, retail units, restaurants, server rooms and multi-floor buildings. Cassette, ducted and VRF systems installed around your trading hours.
Ventilation
Air conditioning recirculates and conditions air; it does not bring in fresh air. We advise on extract and heat recovery ventilation that works alongside it.
If fresh air, condensation or stuffiness is the real issue, read our guide to ventilation with air conditioning before deciding on equipment.
Which type of air conditioning system suits your building?
The right system depends on how many rooms you need to treat, how much ceiling or wall space is available, and how visible you want the equipment to be. The table below summarises the systems we install most often.
System type
How it works
Typically suits
Wall-mounted split
One indoor unit high on a wall, connected by refrigerant pipework to one outdoor unit.
Single rooms: bedrooms, home offices, small shops and treatment rooms.
Multi-split
Two or more indoor units served by a single outdoor unit, each with its own control.
Homes and small offices that need several rooms cooled without several outdoor units.
Ducted
A concealed unit in a ceiling void or loft supplies conditioned air through ducts to grilles.
New builds, refurbishments and spaces where visible units are not wanted.
Cassette
A ceiling-recessed unit that blows air in up to four directions from a flush panel.
Open-plan offices, shops, restaurants and other rooms with suspended ceilings.
VRF
Variable refrigerant flow: one outdoor system serving many indoor units, with independent zone control and, in some designs, simultaneous heating and cooling.
Larger offices, hotels and multi-floor commercial buildings.
Every one of these is an air-to-air heat pump, so it can heat as well as cool, and heating is often its most efficient mode. Our blog covers the most common indoor unit, wall-mounted air conditioning units, in detail, including placement and efficiency. If several rooms need treating, read our guide to multi-split air conditioning installation before you decide.
How quotes work
Every quote from UK Aircon is free, and installed prices start from £1,800. Where yours lands depends on the system type, the number of indoor units, capacity, pipe run lengths, access and any electrical work needed. Our head office is in the North East, so if you're local, our page on air conditioning in Newcastle covers the area in more detail. The process itself goes like this:
Tell us about the project. Use the quote form or email [email protected] with the rooms or areas involved and any photos you have. We reply within 24 hours to discuss it.
Free survey and estimate. We visit to measure up, assess heat gains, check where units and pipework can go and identify anything that needs permission, such as planning or listed building consent for an external unit.
Written quotation. You receive a clear price for the recommended system, with alternatives where there is a genuine choice to make.
Installation and commissioning. We agree a date, complete the work, test the system and show you how to use it.
Every installation carries a 5-year warranty covering parts and labour. It includes access to 24-hour emergency call-out, complimentary maintenance check-ups and discounted spares. We also give a performance guarantee: the system we install will meet the required standard and hold a consistent temperature in the space it was designed for.
Other specialist work we take on
Some projects need more than a standard split system. We also provide:
Indoor air handlers
Indoor air purifiers
Packaged air conditioning units
Commercial AC servicing
Residential AC servicing
Energy assessments
Planned maintenance agreements
Attic and loft ventilation
An energy assessment is worth having if your running costs seem high or you're trying to decide on an upgrade. Maintenance agreements are mostly taken up by businesses that want their servicing, legally required leak checks and paperwork done on a fixed schedule without having to chase it.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?
UK Aircon installation prices start from £1,800. The final cost depends on the type of system, the number of indoor units, the capacity required, pipe run lengths, access and any electrical work. Quotes and surveys are free.
Do you repair air conditioning systems you did not install?
Yes. Our engineers service and repair air conditioners from any manufacturer, including wall-mounted splits, multi-splits, cassettes, ducted systems and VRF systems.
What does the UK Aircon warranty cover?

Can air conditioning heat a room as well as cool it?
Yes. Split, multi-split, cassette, ducted and VRF systems are air-to-air heat pumps, so they can reverse to provide heating. In many cases heating is one of their most efficient modes of operation.
Are your engineers F-Gas qualified?
Yes. UK Aircon is REFCOM registered, and our engineers hold the F-Gas qualifications required to handle refrigerant. They are also background checked and receive monthly training.
