Our head office on Westgate Road is only a short trip over the Tyne from Gateshead, so the borough is part of our everyday patch. UK Aircon installs new systems, repairs and services existing ones, and replaces old equipment for households, landlords and businesses right across Gateshead, working on air conditioners from any manufacturer.
We are a locally owned and operated, REFCOM registered company, and every engineer who handles refrigerant holds the required F-Gas qualifications. Our technicians are background checked and receive monthly training.
From Low Fell villas to Team Valley units
Gateshead covers a wide range of buildings, and the right system depends heavily on which one you are in.

Homes
Low Fell and parts of Saltwell have substantial Victorian and Edwardian stone and brick houses, Bensham and the inner areas have long rows of terraces and Tyneside flats, and places like Whickham, Ryton and the newer estates offer more modern semis and detached houses. Stone-built properties need careful core drilling and neat pipe routes; terraces usually take an outdoor unit in the rear yard; modern homes often have space for a ground stand. A wall-mounted split is the usual choice for a bedroom or home office, while a multi-split serves several rooms from one outdoor unit. Our domestic air conditioning page covers the options.
Businesses
Team Valley Trading Estate is one of the largest business locations in the North East, with offices, trade counters, warehouses and light industrial units. Retail and leisure around the MetroCentre, venues on the Quayside near the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and Gateshead Millennium Bridge, and sports and community facilities such as Gateshead International Stadium all have very different cooling loads. Ceiling cassettes suit open offices and shops, while ducted systems keep equipment out of sight. Read more in our guide to ceiling air conditioning units.
Repairs that stay fixed
A repair is only good value if it solves the actual cause. Topping up refrigerant without finding the leak, or swapping a part without checking why it failed, means paying for the same problem twice. Our engineers diagnose first and then explain what they found before any work is done.
| What you notice | Common causes | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Weak or warm airflow | Dirty filters, low refrigerant, failing fan | Filters, coil, pressures and leak points |
| Water dripping indoors | Blocked condensate drain or failed pump | Drain line, fall and condensate pump |
| Rooms too hot or too cold | Faulty sensor, wrong settings, undersized unit | Controls, sensors and system sizing |
| New noises or vibration | Worn fan motor, loose mountings, debris | Motors, brackets and outdoor unit |
| Unit trips or will not start | Electrical fault, capacitor or control board | Supply, wiring and components |
If the system is old, inefficient or uses R22 refrigerant, which can no longer be used to service systems, we will tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes more sense. Book through our maintenance and repairs service.
Combatting stuffiness and humidity
A system fitted by UK Aircon does more than lower the temperature. As it cools, it pulls moisture out of the air, which helps rooms that feel close and stuffy in muggy weather. Modern systems are also air-to-air heat pumps, so the same unit heats efficiently in the colder months. If air quality is the worry, we can add indoor air purifiers or look at ventilation with air conditioning.
Maintenance agreements for Gateshead businesses
Commercial systems work harder than domestic ones. A maintenance agreement, one of the air conditioning services we offer businesses, schedules regular servicing, keeps F-Gas leak-check records in order where required, and helps you plan for TM44 energy inspections on systems over 12kW, which are due every five years.
Gateshead Council, stone buildings and outdoor units
Gateshead Council is the planning authority for the borough. Most outdoor units on ordinary houses do not need a planning application, but listed buildings and conservation areas, and some commercial premises, need more thought. We check the planned position during the survey and confirm with the council where there is any doubt. Flats and leasehold properties also need the freeholder's agreement.
Areas we cover across the borough
We work throughout Gateshead: Low Fell and the streets towards the Angel of the North, Bensham near the Gateshead Hebrew Congregation, Felling and Windy Nook around St Alban's, Bill Quay and its community farm, Dunston by the Staiths, Blaydon near Path Head Water Mill, and the Quayside below the Swing Bridge. Gateshead jobs are managed by our Newcastle air conditioning team, which also covers Jesmond and Wallsend north of the river.
Send us your details and we will reply within 24 hours to book a free estimate. Installed prices start from £1,800, and new installations carry a 5 year warranty covering parts and labour.
Gateshead air conditioning questions answered
Do you install air conditioning on Team Valley Trading Estate?
Yes. UK Aircon carries out commercial installations, servicing and repairs for offices, trade counters and industrial units across Gateshead, including Team Valley.
My air conditioner keeps breaking down. Should I repair or replace it?
It depends on the fault, the age of the system and its refrigerant. We diagnose the cause first; if the unit is old, inefficient or uses R22, replacement is often better value than repeated repairs.
Does my Gateshead business need a TM44 inspection?
If your air conditioning systems have a combined cooling output of more than 12kW, a TM44 energy inspection is required at least every five years.
Can air conditioning reduce humidity in my home?
Yes. Air conditioners remove moisture from the air as they cool, and many have a dedicated dry mode, which helps rooms that feel close and stuffy.
Do I need permission from Gateshead Council for an outdoor unit?
Most domestic outdoor units do not need a planning application, but listed buildings and conservation areas can. Gateshead Council is the planning authority, and we check the position before installation.
